Hyacinth Necklace! Subscribed to the newsletter! My favorite gift idea for the holidays is homemade baked goods!

  2. Colleen says:

Hyacinth Necklace: Subscribed to the newsletter! I watch the sales throughout the year, and when I find good deals, I pick up appropriate gifts and set them aside in my “gift box” and then record that I have picked them up. It spreads the cost of Christmas throughout the year and keeps my cost low. This year, gifts for about a 14 adults and children cost me around $225.

  3. Hope Ryckman says:

I give home made baking to all of my friends, saves me buying gifts and it saves cash flow and my friends enjoy having something delicious for their family and to serve to guests when the visit too! ;)

I enjoy keeping the holidays sort of low key. (though anybody can get a bit carried away!) I concentrate on making do with the items i have to our best ability. We re-use wrap and all of us make creative wrapping that can be quite funny… my son for instance has created a “snowman” out of our gifts, complete with sunglasses and a hat. We decorate with cut out pictures on the gifts wrapping, and funny statements, sometimes a quote of what the person may say…. it’s funny to see what everyone comes up with. So I would have to say our holidays are lighthearted, eclectic decor and the best dishes served for the ones we love. We try to have fun and take a break, going for a toboggan slide or a walk during the day and spending time as a family with our doggie.

  36. Elizabeth B says:

Hyacinth Necklace: Subscribed to the newsletter! As someone on a very tight budget, my favorite buget friendly gift idea is Scarves. I can knit, but that takes a long time… My favorite gift for hosts, and extended family is fleece scarves. The stores carry reams and reems of choices, and fleece is the type of material that does not require hemming the edges. Just cut it as long as you want and add if you want to dress it up cutt a fringe. And Presto, handmade, always useful in the winter, and you can personalise it but finding just the right colour or pattern. If you really want to show off your skills try making a hat or mitts.

A great gift giving idea is to make your own gift baskets ! You can get a medium priced bottle of wine/champange, 2 nice glasses, put in a decorative basket or tin (find lots at second hand shops !!) and then add tissue paper and chocolates, maybe cheese and crackers .. wrap in cellophane anbd fancy ribbons and its perfect !

Get people experience gifts, and include yourself in them. They will appreciate a small amount of money spent on a great experience together (and will remember it more) than if you spend a bunch of money on an item!

  56. Wendi Maroon says:

I use my points cards for sooo many presents (SDM Optimum, Airmiles, Aeroplan, Amazon.ca with gift cards earned on the Swagbucks search page, gift cards for Chapters/Indigo and Old Navy for two survey sites). My biggest coup was just buying a new computer for my mom using soley my Amazon GCs…so essentially a free computer.

Hyacinth Necklace: gift cards and baking something sweet can go a long way!
